Sri Lanka, April 24 -- Twelve states have launched a legal challenge against the Trump administration, accusing it of "illegally imposing" tax hikes on American citizens through tariffs.

The lawsuit has been filed by the attorneys general of New York, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont.

The tariffs in question were implemented by the Trump administration under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which allows the President to enact such measures in response to exceptional threats.

The lawsuit seeks a court order to halt these tariffs, arguing that President Trump is exceeding his legal authority.
