Sri Lanka, May 8 -- SriLankan Airlines has been awarded the International Air Transport Association (IATA) certification for transporting large volumes of lithium batteries as cargo.
This development is anticipated to significantly enhance the airline's electronic goods transportation sector.
Since 2020, SriLankan Airlines has been progressively expanding its focus on air cargo operations.
Chaminda Perera, Head of SriLankan Cargo, stated that the airline intends to pursue certification for the carriage of live animals in the future, aiming to capitalize on opportunities within the global e-commerce market.
Last year, the cargo division contributed 12% to the overall revenue of the SriLankan Airlines Group.
