Sri Lanka, June 7 -- The Sri Lankan Muslim community is celebrating Hajj today (7).

The Hajj festival, which symbolises Prophet Ibrahim's devotion and unparalleled sacrifice to Allah, holds unique significance due to the pilgrimage to Mecca, which is considered the fifth pillar of Islam.

According to the Islamic calendar, the tenth day of the month of Dhul Hijjah is reserved for the Hajj festival.

The Colombo Grand Mosque announced that the new moon of Dhul Hijjah was sighted on the 28th of May, confirming today's celebration.

Accordingly, religious services for the Hajj festival were held this morning across the island.
