Sri Lanka, April 3 -- Sri Lankan exports to the United States will be subjected to a 44% tariff starting April 5, significantly higher than the universal 10% tariff that will take effect the same day.

The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) reported that U.S. total goods trade with Sri Lanka reached an estimated $3.4 billion in 2024.

U.S. exports to Sri Lanka rose by 4.9% to $368.2 million, an increase of $17.1 million from 2023. Imports from Sri Lanka totaled $3.0 billion, reflecting a 6.1% rise of $173.5 million.

The U.S. goods trade deficit with Sri Lanka increased by 6.3% to $2.6 billion, marking a $156.4 million rise compared to 2023.
