Sri Lanka, Aug. 31 -- Industries and Entrepreneurship Development Minister Sunil Handunnetti said if local technical expertise was insufficient to address the issues caused by the irregular construction of the salinity barrier on the Nilwala River in Matara, the government would seek foreign assistance to find a permanent solution.

The minister made these remarks during a recent visit to the site. The barrier, intended to address drinking water shortages in Matara, has failed to function as planned due to alleged substandard construction, leaving residents grappling with ongoing water supply issues.
