Sri Lanka, Sept. 15 -- The government plans to establish at least 50 multimodal transport centres across the country by 2029, according to Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake.
The Minister announced the plan at the launch of the Colombo Central Bus Stand renovation project in Pettah today.
Minister Rathnayake explained that 15 of these centres are expected to be set up in Colombo by 2026.
The new hubs are designed to integrate bus, train, and taxi services in a single location to improve commuter convenience.
The Minister also stated that his Ministry is working to upgrade several major bus stands nationwide, including those in Colombo, as part of the initiative.
