Sri Lanka, Feb. 2 -- Sri Lanka plans to apply for financial assistance from the United Nations-linked Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage to support reconstruction efforts after Cyclone Ditwah.

Chamani Kumarasinghe, Additional Director at the Ministry of Environment's Climate Change Secretariat, announced that preparations for the application are underway during a forum organised by the think tank Slycan Trust. The forum focused on the global shift toward disaster risk financing and the opening of the fund's first call for proposals.

Rohan Cooray, a specialist for the Commissioner General of Essential Services, indicated that the country could potentially secure between 20 and 25 million dollars through this application.
