Sri Lanka, Jan. 29 -- Sri Lanka has formalised a bilateral agreement with Belgium's export credit agency, Credendo, to restructure 9.6 million euros in outstanding debt.

The pact, signed on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, marks another successful step in Colombo's broader strategy to restore debt sustainability following the 2022 economic crisis. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, signed the deal alongside Dirk Terweduwe, Chief Executive Officer of Credendo. Under the terms, the 9.6 million debt will be rescheduled with extended repayment windows to ease the immediate fiscal burden on the national treasury.
