Sri Lanka, July 1 -- Sri Lanka's tourism earnings have surpassed USD 1.5 billion up to May this year, including the USD 164 million generated from tourist arrivals last month.

The Central Bank also reported a 17.9% increase in remittances from foreign workers in May, bringing the total remittances for the year up to May to USD 3.1 billion.

Furthermore, gross official reserves, including the currency swap facility with the People's Bank of China, remained at USD 6.3 billion by the end of April, consistent with the previous month.

The Sri Lankan rupee has depreciated by 2.5% by the end of last month.
