Sri Lanka, April 21 -- The National Audit Office has reportedly submitted a formal written request to the President, seeking the appointment of Dharmapala Gammanpila as the new Auditor General.

Gammanpila is currently the most senior official within the Audit Office and is serving as the Acting Auditor General.

This appeal follows the retirement of the former Auditor General, Chulantha Wickramaratne, which has created a vacancy in the crucial oversight position.

The appointment of a suitable candidate to this post is the responsibility of the President, based on recommendations put forth by the Constitutional Council.
