Sri Lanka, Feb. 6 -- The government is actively pursuing compensation for colonial-era losses and the repatriation of cultural treasures, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath told Parliament in response to a proposal by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.
Herath said efforts are ongoing to claim reparations for property damage, theft, and loss of life during the colonial period, while also seeking the return of artefacts taken by colonial powers.
He noted that both Portugal and the Netherlands have acknowledged Sri Lanka's requests for restitution, with some artefacts already returned and others expected to follow.
