Sri Lanka, May 14 -- Sri Lanka has lodged strong objections with the Canadian High Commissioner over what the foreign ministry called "unfounded genocide allegations" and the approval of constructing a so-called Tamil Genocide Monument in Brampton, Canada.

Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath had met with the Canadian High Commissioner today, and as per the ministry, had stressed that such actions complicate and undermine the government's efforts toward reconciliation and national unity.

Sri Lanka had insisted that the allegation of genocide during the final phase of the conflict in Sri Lanka is "unsubstantiated by any credible authority, and is based on misleading information".
