Sri Lanka, July 5 -- Sri Lanka has commenced receiving data from five nuclear radiation detectors recently installed at naval bases across the island.

Prageeth Kadadunna, Director of the Inspection and Enforcement Division at the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Regulatory Council, told Hiru News that these detectors, established with the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), are strategically located in Kalpitiya, Mannar, Delft, Nilaveli, and Batticaloa.

The primary purpose of these detectors is to enhance Sri Lanka's preparedness for potential radiation leaks from nuclear power plants in neighbouring India, even though Sri Lanka does not operate its own nuclear facility.
