Sri Lanka, Dec. 30 -- A comprehensive traffic and security plan will be implemented in Colombo to ensure public safety and minimise congestion during the 2026 New Year celebrations.

The Police Media Division indicated that a large number of people and vehicles are expected to enter the city, specifically targeting the Galle Face Green area on December 31, 202.

Authorities anticipate heavy traffic congestion in the Fort, Pettah, Slave Island (Kompanna Veediya), Maradana, Kollupitiya, Bambalapitiya, and Cinnamon Gardens police divisions. Although traffic will generally proceed as usual on December 31, specific diversions will function strictly during periods of intense congestion.
