Sri Lanka, Feb. 22 -- Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya has revealed that 58 organized criminal gangs and around 1,400 individuals linked to them have been identified across the country.

Speaking at a special press conference today (22), he reported that this year alone, there have been 17 shooting incidents and five cases of individuals being hacked to death, with investigations into 17 of these cases already completed.

The Acting IGP further disclosed that some members of the police force and Tri-Forces were found to be involved in certain incidents, leading to the arrest of 11 personnel.
