Sri Lanka, Sept. 17 -- The Agricultural and Agrarian Insurance Board has introduced a special insurance scheme for commercially grown turmeric and ginger crops intended for export.

Under this new scheme, ginger farmers can obtain insurance coverage of up to Rs. 200,000 per acre.

Turmeric farmers, on the other hand, can get a maximum coverage of Rs. 700,000 per acre.

By paying an insurance premium of just 7%, farmers can protect their crops against natural disasters, diseases, insect damage, and elephant attacks.
