Sri Lanka, May 18 -- The Meteorology Department reports that the southwest monsoon conditions are gradually establishing across the island.
As a result, Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, Northern, and North-Central provinces, as well as the Galle and Matara districts, can expect intermittent showers or thundershowers today (18).
The department's statement also indicates that some areas in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North-Western, and Northern provinces may experience fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75mm.
Furthermore, showers or thundershowers are likely in other parts of the island during the evening or night.
