Sri Lanka, Nov. 1 -- A soldier on duty at the 22 Infantry Division Headquarters in Trincomalee has died from a gunshot wound this morning (November 1st) upon being admitted to the hospital, according to the Trincomalee Headquarters Police.

The soldier who lost his life has been identified as G.G.A. Chinthaka Prasanna Karunarathna (30), a resident of Kotuhena, Maduragoda, Kurunegala.

Police suspect the incident is a suicide, as the fatal shot was fired from the soldier's service firearm.

The Trincomalee Headquarters Police are conducting further investigations into the incident, and the reason for the suspected suicide has not yet been revealed.
