Sri Lanka, Aug. 28 -- SLTB Trade Unions Launch Strike Over Unified Bus Timetable
Several Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) trade unions have launched a strike, beginning at midnight on Wednesday, in protest of the National Transport Commission's (NTC) new unified bus timetable.
The Chairman of the SLTB 'Samagi Sewaka Sangamaya', Niroshan Sampath Premaratne, stated that the strike was based on four demands, with the main one being the immediate cessation of the unified timetable for both SLTB and private buses. The Chairman of the Lanka Private Bus Association, Gemunu Wijeratne, also expressed that his organization has "many issues" with the new system.
