Srilanka, Nov. 15 -- Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), stated that his party has no objection to increasing the wages of estate workers but opposes the methodology the government is using to implement it.

Speaking to the media yesterday (14) after paying homage at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, he alleged that the government is essentially collecting taxes from the poor and distributing that money among a few large-scale businessmen.

Rajapaksa clarified the SLPP's position: "We are not against increasing the wages of estate workers or the private sector. Today, we are telling the government to fulfil the promise made to the estate workers."
