Sri Lanka, June 12 -- In the recent local government elections, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) won 13 seats in the Akurana Pradeshiya Sabha. Despite initial challenges in forming the council, the SJB candidate secured the chairmanship with 16 votes. The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) candidate then won the Vice-Chairman position with 18 votes, cementing the SJB's power.

Meanwhile, in the Udubaddawa Pradeshiya Sabha, the Jathika Jana Balawegaya (NPP) initially led with 9 seats. However, the SLPP candidate successfully secured the chairmanship with 10 votes. The SJB then won the Vice-Chairmanship, ultimately confirming the SLPP's control of the Udubaddawa local council.
