Sri Lanka, March 31 -- A six-year-old child who was receiving treatment for burns following a petrol bomb attack on a house in the Rajawatte - Gamagoda Road area of Kalutara has died.

Two unidentified individuals on a motorcycle threw a lit petrol-filled bottle at the house last night before fleeing.

A 28-year-old woman and the child sustained severe injuries and were initially admitted to Kalutara Teaching Hospital. The child, in critical condition, was later transferred to Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital in Colombo, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The child's mother is currently abroad, and he was under the care of the injured woman. Police have launched an investigation into the attack.
