Sri Lanka, May 7 -- Seven students from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, arrested for the brutal assault of a third-year student from the Faculty of Technology, were granted bail today (07).

Homagama Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya ordered for the suspects to be released on a surety bail of Rs. 300,000 each.

The suspects were arrested by the Homagama Police following the attack on the victim, a third-year student from Weligama, Matara, at a hostel in Pitipana, Homagama.

According to a complaint received by the police, the assault was in retaliation for the student's vocal opposition to ragging and for not using a student alias.
