Sri Lanka, June 2 -- Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Sunil Handunnetti, has emphatically stated that the Sevanagala factory of the Lanka Sugar Company will never be allowed to close down.

The Minister made these remarks during a press conference held to clarify the current situation of the sugar industry.

This assurance comes after sugarcane farmers recently alleged that the Sevanagala Sugar Factory was at risk of closure due to mismanagement, despite over 25,000 acres being cultivated with sugarcane in the surrounding areas.

Farmers had claimed that the Sevanagala Sugar Factory was not purchasing sugarcane for sugar production, leading to stockpiles of harvests in some places.
