Sri Lanka, May 1 -- Security forces have reportedly uncovered a plot to assassinate Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon.

Security officials have informed IGP Tennakoon about the threat, with initial reports suggesting that the assassination plot is being orchestrated by an organised crime figure and international drug trafficker Kanjipani Imran.

During his tenure as IGP, Deshabandu Tennakoon spearheaded a special program aimed at eradicating drug trafficking in Sri Lanka.

However, due to ongoing legal proceedings, he is currently suspended from his duties as the IGP.
