Sri Lanka, Aug. 31 -- The Ministry of Transport has announced that a gazette including regulations to make seatbelt use mandatory for passengers on buses travelling on Sri Lanka's expressways will be issued today (31).
This is after officials highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of passenger safety at a recent advisory committee meeting.
The ministry had previously stated that from tomorrow (1), every passenger in vehicles on expressways must wear a seatbelt.
However, school buses, office transport buses, long-distance tour buses, and other similar vehicles will be given a three-month grace period to install seatbelts.
