Sri Lanka, June 7 -- A van transporting schoolchildren veered off the road and crashed yesterday (6), in the Brookside Estate area on the Ragala-Nuwara Eliya main road.

The accident resulted in injuries to a schoolgirl, the driver, and a woman who were travelling in the van.

Police reported that 6 schoolchildren and the mother of 1 schoolchild were also in the van at the time of the incident.

Reportedly, that the van was being driven at high speed when the driver reportedly lost control due to a sudden mechanical failure.

Local residents assisted by transporting the injured and other schoolchildren from the scene.

Ragala Police, who are investigating the accident, confirmed that the van sustained severe damage.
