Sri Lanka, July 13 -- The Ministry of Education has announced plans to increase the duration of a single school period to 50 minutes for students from Grade 1 to Grade 6, starting next year under new education reforms.

They also plan to reduce the total number of school periods from the current eight to seven.

This information was revealed during a discussion held yesterday (12) with education authorities in the North Central Province, chaired by the Prime Minister.

The meeting in Anuradhapura, led by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, was the first in a series of discussions aimed at informing provincial, zonal, and divisional education and administrative authorities about the new education reforms set to be implemented from 2026....
