Sri Lanka, June 18 -- The Supreme Court today (18) ordered that the hearing of the Fundamental Rights Petition filed by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) regarding the suicide of Charith Dilshan Dayananda, a second-year student of the Faculty of Technology at Sabaragamuwa University, be taken up for consideration on July 18.
The petition, which claims that fundamental human rights were violated in connection with the student's death, also seeks a directive from the court for the respondents to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
The case was taken up before a three-judge bench comprising Justices S. Thurai Raja, Kumuduni Wickramasinghe, and Janak de Silva.
