Sri Lanka, Dec. 14 -- Leader of the Opposition and Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader, Sajith Premadasa, has proposed that the Disaster Management Ministry should be converted into a Line Ministry to strengthen the country's response mechanism.

Speaking during a visit to the disaster-stricken area of Kaikawala, Rattota in the Matale District today (13 ), the Opposition Leader strongly emphasised that a formal disaster management mechanism must be established immediately, underscoring that the right to life is a fundamental right.

Premadasa questioned whether all necessary steps were taken to minimise the catastrophe this time around.
