Sri Lanka, June 21 -- Reports circulating on social media claiming that drunk drivers will face a Rs. 500,000 fine are completely false, according to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police for Traffic Control and Road Safety, Indika Hapugoda.

When questioned by our news desk, DIG Hapugoda emphasised that individuals creating or publishing such misleading advertisements will face strict legal action.

The Sri Lanka Police's official Facebook page has also posted a statement confirming that this news is false.
