Sri Lanka, May 31 -- The Department of Meteorology has issued a warning that due to the active south-westerly monsoon, wind speeds in the sea areas around the island could increase to between 60 and 70kmph.

This particularly affects the sea areas off the coast from Chilaw to Puttalam and Mannar through Kankesanthurai, as well as from Galle through Hambantota to Pottuvil.

The Department has advised naval and fishing communities not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.

Furthermore, sea waves could rise to approximately 3 metres in the sea areas off the coast from Mannar via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota to Pottuvil. There's also a possibility of sea waves coming ashore along the coastal areas from Mannar via ...
