Sri Lanka, Jan. 21 -- A total of 120 fatalities resulted from 113 major road incidents between January 1 and January 19, 2026.
Deputy Inspector General of Police for Traffic Control and Road Safety, W. P. J. Senadheera, provided these statistics during a recent briefing.
Pedestrians account for 33 of those killed during this period.
The data further shows that 45 motorcycle-related incidents occurred, leading to the deaths of seven pillion riders.
Beyond the fatalities, 216 individuals sustained serious injuries in these encounters.
The Deputy Inspector General also noted that 490 minor incidents took place, resulting in 159 cases of significant property damage.
