Sri Lanka, Sept. 14 -- Traders are reporting a continued shortage of Samba and Keeri Samba rice varieties in the market.

In response, Hemantha Samarakoon, the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), says he has informed the Food Security Committee about the shortage and pricing issues.

The CAA chairman also plans to raise the matter at a special discussion scheduled for tomorrow at the Presidential Secretariat. Furthermore, he has recommended importing a substitute for Keeri Samba to address the shortage.

Meanwhile, the United Rice Producers' Association has requested the government to revoke the gazette notice that imposed a maximum retail price on Samba and Keeri Samba rice.
