Sri Lanka, May 15 -- The Additional Magistrate of Mt Lavinia, Hemali Haputhanthri, ordered that the case against the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ravi Seneviratne be reheard under all three initial charges related to a drunken driving incident in Wellawatta in 2023.

The incident occurred on October 28, 2023, when the vehicle driven by the former DIG, who was under the influence of alcohol, collided with a parked car and a bus on Marine Drive in Wellawatta.

Following a complaint by Seneviratne to the Police Special Investigations Unit alleging unfair arrest and detention, a report was submitted to the DIG in charge of Legal Affairs, Ruwan Gunasekara.
