Sri Lanka, Aug. 30 -- Sri Lanka ranks 135th out of 193 countries in the world for female parliamentary representation, despite women accounting for 52% of the total population.
These findings were reported by the World Economic Forum and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The statistics were presented at an event titled "unlocking the gender dividend," which featured experts discussing research on gender-based discrimination and women's well-being in Sri Lanka.
Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya also attended the event and stated that "no woman is safe until every woman is safe."
The Prime Minister spoke about the importance of enforcing strong laws to protect women and their well-being.
