Srilanka, Nov. 16 -- The government is focusing attention on the restoration of the Independence Square complex in Colombo's Cinnamon Gardens, which is 76 years old.

A key part of this initiative is the plan to restore 57 Lion sculptures installed within the premises.

The decision to remove and subsequently reinstall these sculptures comes as part of a larger project to renovate the landmark.

An expert committee recently identified the Independence Square building, which dates back to 1948, as being in a state of disrepair.

A thorough condition assessment of the site found that attention must also be given to restoring the stone pillars, the roofing system, and various carvings belonging to different eras.
