Sri Lanka, Dec. 4 -- The District Secretary for Monaragala, A.G. Nishantha, stated today (04) that steps are being taken to pay compensation for paddy fields in the Monaragala District damaged by the torrential rains over the past few days.
According to statistics from the Agrarian Services Department, 3,804 acres of cultivated paddy fields in the district sustained damage due to flooding.
Paddy cultivations in the Buttala, Ethimale, Siyambalanduwa, and Wellawaya areas suffered extensive damage. While some paddy fields were completely submerged, the water receded now.
Plans established to re-cultivate the completely damaged paddy lands, and arrangements made to provide the necessary seeds and fertilizer free of charge.
