Sri Lanka, Sept. 11 -- A new regulation for long-distance passenger buses and vans will be implemented soon, Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Rathnayake said.

The Minister said that the new regulation is based on six main factors and will require all vehicles travelling over 100 kilometres or crossing provincial borders to obtain a vehicle inspection certificate before commencing their journey.

According to Minister Ratnayake, the vehicles will be checked for some vital factors such as tires, brakes and mirrors.

Vehicles will be subjected to the inspection and receive a certificate forty-eight hours prior to the journey.
