Sri Lanka, May 30 -- The Department of Meteorology has issued a red warning due to the active south-west monsoon, forecasting strong winds and rough seas in several sea areas around the island.

Wind speeds are expected to increase to between 60 and 70 kilometres per hour in the sea areas off the coast extending from Chilaw to Puttalam and Mannar to Kankesanthurai, as well as from Galle to Hambantota to Pottuvil.

Accordingly, fishing and naval communities are advised not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.

The weather bulletin also states that there is a possibility of sea waves rising to approximately 3 metres in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota...
