Sri Lanka, June 14 -- The Department of Meteorology has issued a red alert for strong winds and rough seas, valid until 2:30 PM tomorrow (15).
This is due to the active South-West Monsoon conditions.
Accordingly, wind speeds in the sea areas off the coast from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota, may increase to between 60 and 70 kilometres per hour at times.
These sea areas could become very rough intermittently.
Therefore, the Department of Meteorology advises naval and fishing communities not to venture into these sea areas until further notice.
