Sri Lanka, Aug. 29 -- The Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society (SLEDS) has announced a significant milestone, with more than 5,000 eye donations recorded in the first eight months of this year.
According to the president of the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society, Sampath De Silva, a total of 5,117 post-mortem eye donations were made from January to August. These donations have been vital for sight-restoring procedures, with 1,144 corneas provided for patients in Sri Lanka and a further 3,973 sent to international recipients.
Mr. De Silva also shared the cumulative figures, stating that the society has so far donated 98,295 corneas to foreign patients and 58,635 to local patients. Additionally, the organisation's Tissue Bank supplied 592 tissues f...
