Sri Lanka, Aug. 1 -- The Ministry of Transport and Highways has announced that from today (1), it will be mandatory for passengers in the rear seats of all light vehicles travelling on expressways to wear seat belts.
Speaking at a programme to establish the Galle District Transport Coordination Committee, Minister of Transport Bimal Ratnayake stated that strict action will be taken against drivers and passengers travelling on expressways without wearing seat belts, effective from today.
The law requiring all vehicle occupants on expressways to wear seat belts has been in effect since September 1 of the previous year.
