Sri Lanka, Jan. 24 -- Drug testing for bus operators is being expanded to include conductors following a decision by the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority (WPRPTA).

Chairman Gamini Jasinghe announced that random testing within the Western Province will begin next week, targeting both drivers and conductors to ensure they remain completely free from alcohol and narcotics while on duty.

Legal provisions exist under the Motor Traffic Act and specific Authority regulations to penalize those who violate these safety standards.

Operating licenses are granted under 38 distinct conditions, which strictly encompass the conduct and sobriety of all crew members.
