Sri Lanka, Oct. 9 -- The Meteorology Department said that rain or thundershowers could occur in several places in the island after 2.00 pm today.

Heavy rains exceeding 75 to 100 mm could be experienced in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Western and Uva Provinces as well as in the districts of Anuradhapura, Vavuniya and Mannar.

Meanwhile, heavy rains together with strong winds with speeds between 70 to 80 kilometers per hour could be experienced in sea areas off the coast of Matara, from Puttalam through Galle. The Meteorology Department warns fishing and naval communities to be vigilant as a result.
