Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- The Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance, Dr. Harsha de Silva, has voiced doubts over the genuine independence of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

The concerns were raised during a session where the CIABOC's budget was being scrutinised.

Dr. de Silva's main argument is that without financial autonomy, an institution cannot truly be considered independent.

He questioned how an organisation without its own financial control could effectively exercise its authority, particularly regarding the hiring of essential personnel.
