Sri Lanka, June 8 -- The Public Utilities Commission said that the process of finalising electricity tariffs for the next six months is in its final stages.

Its Director of Corporate Communications, Jayanath Herath, said that the final decision regarding the revised electricity tariffs will be announced within the next few days.

Public consultations on the revision concluded on June 3.

The Ceylon Electricity Board submitted a proposal to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka last month seeking an 18.3% increase in electricity tariffs for the period spanning June to December of this year.

The CEB stated that this tariff revision is necessary due to an estimated deficit of Rs.42.1 billion for the upcoming six months.
