Sri Lanka, Aug. 14 -- The Department of Communications of Parliament has announced that the draft bill to establish the Gambling Regulatory Authority has been approved by the Public Finance Committee.

The approval was given during a meeting held on August 12, chaired by Member of Parliament Rauff Hakeem.

The proposed bill will establish the Gambling Regulatory Authority as an independent body with broad powers to standardize betting and gambling establishments in Sri Lanka.

The objective is to minimize social harm, develop the tourism sector, and contribute to economic growth.
