Sri Lanka, Sept. 4 -- The Cabinet has approved a special project to finalize all pending investigations into complaints of missing persons by the end of 2027.

The Office on Missing Persons (OMP), which was established by Act No. 14 of 2016, has received a total of 16,966 complaints to date. Of these, 10,517 cases are still under investigation.

To expedite the process and provide justice to affected families, the Ministry of Justice and National Integration will appoint 25 sub-committees.

These committees will consist of a total of 75 members, including retired judges, senior administrators, and lawyers, who will be responsible for carrying out the investigations.
