Srilanka, Dec. 26 -- Professor Charitha Pattiaratchi from the University of Western Australia has emphasised the urgent need for a systematic program to educate the public on immediate actions to take during extreme weather.
Speaking in a Zoom interview with Hiru News, he warned that the severe conditions experienced last November could recur in the future.
He explained that while low-pressure systems typically form in the November-December period each year, the recent catastrophic weather was the result of two low-pressure systems merging, which intensified the impact significantly.
